Microneedling: A Bespoke Approach to Skin Renewal

Microneedling is one of my favourite treatment modalities — and one I believe is best approached with patience, precision and a very considered plan.

It can be an incredibly exciting addition to your skincare journey, particularly when we are looking to improve concerns such as fine lines, uneven texture, pigmentation, scarring, loss of firmness and overall skin quality.

But microneedling isn’t simply about choosing a needle depth and getting to work.

This is where my bespoke approach really matters.

Your skin comes first

If you choose to have microneedling with me, I will carefully assess your skin, your concerns and what we are realistically trying to achieve before we begin.

I’ll make recommendations at the start of your course and monitor how your skin responds as we progress.

Your treatment can then be adapted accordingly.

Because, as with all of my treatments, I don’t believe in following a rigid protocol simply because that’s what is written on a treatment menu.

Why microneedling works

Microneedling creates thousands of tiny, controlled micro-injuries in the skin.

These micro-injuries trigger the skin’s natural repair response, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin and supporting longer-term improvements in skin quality.

There is also a second element to the treatment that I find particularly interesting: mesotherapy.

The tiny channels created during microneedling provide a temporary pathway for carefully selected topical ingredients to be applied during the treatment.

So we are working on the skin in two ways:

1. Controlled stimulation

Encouraging the skin’s natural regenerative processes and supporting collagen and elastin production.

2. Targeted delivery

Using the microchannels created during treatment to help selected active ingredients reach further into the skin.

It’s this combination that makes microneedling such a versatile treatment.

The technology I use

I chose the iMedPen because of its impressive precision and performance.

The device uses a 16-pin cartridge and can create up to 2,200 punctures per second, allowing me to work efficiently while carefully controlling the treatment according to the area and the needs of your skin.

And, perhaps more importantly, microneedling requires excellent hygiene and infection-control protocols.

This is not something I compromise on.

Every treatment is carried out with strict hygiene procedures and appropriate single-use equipment.

Microneedling requires patience

This is probably the most important thing I tell clients considering microneedling:

Don’t expect overnight results.

Microneedling stimulates processes within the skin that take time.

Think about going to the gym. You wouldn’t expect to see a completely different body after four weeks — your skin deserves the same patience.

Some people notice an initial improvement in glow and texture relatively quickly, but the more meaningful collagen-related changes develop gradually.

For many clients, I would expect to start seeing more significant changes after a number of treatments and over several months.

The results are cumulative, which is why I prefer to think about microneedling as a course rather than a one-off treatment.

The mesotherapy element

During your microneedling treatment, I use carefully selected serums, including ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and vitamins.

But this is also where we can make your treatment even more bespoke.

Depending on your skin and your goals, there are specialist ampoules available that can be incorporated into your treatment.

I don’t believe that more products automatically mean better results, so I won’t recommend an ampoule simply because it’s available.

If I think your skin will genuinely benefit from one, I’ll tell you. If I don’t, I won’t.

Specialist ampoule options

Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are an increasingly popular ingredient within regenerative and aesthetic skincare, with emerging research exploring their potential role in skin rejuvenation and improving the appearance of fine lines, skin quality and laxity.

They are an interesting option, but they aren’t automatically the right choice for everyone.

As with all of my treatment enhancements, I’ll consider whether they are appropriate for your skin rather than adding them simply for the sake of it.

Exosomes

Exosomes are another area of growing interest within regenerative skincare.

They are tiny extracellular vesicles involved in cell-to-cell communication, and research is exploring their potential applications in skin regeneration and rejuvenation.

This is an evolving area of skincare science, so I prefer to take a considered approach rather than make exaggerated promises.

CLINICARE EGF Glow

This is one of my favourites.

The EGF Glow ampoule is a concentrated mesotherapy cocktail containing a combination of ingredients designed to support hydration, firmness, antioxidant protection and a more even-looking complexion.

It’s particularly lovely when the goal is that fresh, luminous, healthy-looking glow.

This is one of the ampoules I find myself particularly drawn to when I want to enhance the overall radiance and quality of the skin.

CLINICARE EGF Tight

The EGF Tight ampoule is designed with a focus on firmness, hydration and the appearance of fine lines and loss of elasticity.

It contains a concentrated blend of peptides, epidermal growth factors and other skin-conditioning ingredients.

I particularly like this option when our focus is on firmness and a more tightened, refined appearance.

So, what should you have?

That’s actually the wrong question.

The better question is:

What does your skin need?

You don’t need to understand every ampoule, every ingredient or every possible combination before booking.

That’s my job.

I’ll assess your skin, listen to what you want to achieve and create a treatment plan that makes sense for you.

Sometimes that might include a specialist ampoule.

Sometimes the standard treatment is exactly what your skin needs.

And sometimes I’ll tell you that microneedling isn’t the treatment I’d choose at all.

I’m not interested in selling you the most expensive version of a treatment.

I’m interested in giving you the treatment I genuinely believe will give your skin the best outcome.

That, to me, is what The Emma Blakeman Method is all about.

Beautiful skin isn’t created by throwing everything at it.

It’s created by knowing what to use, when to use it — and when to leave it alone.
