Behind the Scenes of The Emma Blakeman Method, My Signature Bespoke Facial

The Emma Blakeman Method is unique because so is your skin.

I’ve worked in many high-end spas where the facial menu can be pages long. And while choice sounds wonderful in theory, I’ve always found myself wondering: does anyone really want to read through endless treatment descriptions just to decide which facial is right for them?

As a therapist, I also found it frustrating when someone booked a facial that wasn’t quite right for what their skin actually needed. Valuable treatment time could then be spent explaining what would have been more appropriate.

That’s one of the reasons I created The Emma Blakeman Method.

Rather than asking you to choose the treatment your skin needs weeks in advance, I make that decision with you on the day.

Your skin can change enormously depending on stress, hormones, lifestyle, skincare, the weather and simply what’s going on in your life. So your facial should be able to change too.

So, what actually happens?

Every Emma Blakeman Method facial is incredibly thorough, but there isn’t a rigid sequence that I follow every time.

We always begin with a deep cleanse and some form of exfoliation, followed by a luxurious facial massage. For some clients, that massage will be more focused on lymphatic drainage and reducing puffiness; for others, it will be about releasing tension from the face, jaw, neck and shoulders.

From there, we focus on what your skin needs most.

This might mean concentrating on congestion and extractions, or it might mean doing very little to disturb the skin and instead focusing on hydration, nourishment and barrier support.

The intensity of each step is completely dependent on your skin on the day and, of course, your goals.

That might mean lots of extractions, milia removal or sonic cleansing.

Or it might mean a much gentler treatment designed to replenish and calm a compromised skin barrier.

There is no “one size fits all” facial here.

The products

The Bespoke Facial is performed predominantly using CLINICARE, a Swedish cosmeceutical skincare brand.

One of the ingredients I particularly love within the range is hyaluronic acid, alongside high-quality serums containing ingredients such as vitamin C, peptides and ceramides.

The products allow me to tailor the treatment according to what your skin needs, rather than simply following a predetermined product sequence.

A closer look at what might be included

Enzyme Peel

An enzyme peel is incorporated into virtually all of my facials.

It is a gentle, pain-free way of exfoliating the skin and can help to leave it looking brighter, smoother and fresher.

It’s one of those steps that sounds relatively simple, but the difference it can make to the skin afterwards is often noticeable immediately.

AHA/BHA Peels

I am incredibly passionate about professional chemical peels because, when chosen and performed correctly, they can be a catalyst for significant changes in the skin.

But stronger doesn’t necessarily mean better.

Choosing the right acid, concentration and application for the individual skin in front of me requires experience and training. If I feel a peel is appropriate for your treatment, I’ll always explain what I’m doing and why.

Depending on the peel, you may experience some temporary warmth, tingling or sensitivity afterwards.

The Cleansing Brush

“Was there a brush? It felt like I was being stroked by an angel!”

This is probably one of the most commented on parts of my facials!

I use a beautiful cleansing brush alongside a hero cleansing product to gently remove the final traces of impurities and leave the skin beautifully clean and prepared for the next stages of the treatment.

It’s a small detail, but one clients really seem to love.

Sonic Cleansing

Sonic cleansing is particularly useful when the skin is congested.

It can help to smooth the surface of the skin and loosen debris around blackheads and sebaceous filaments, leaving the skin feeling exceptionally clean and refined.

Milia Removal

Milia are those tiny, stubborn white bumps that can sit just beneath the surface of the skin.

When appropriate, I can carefully remove them during your facial using a sterile needle and a very precise technique.

This is not something I recommend attempting at home. Trying to squeeze or pick at milia can cause unnecessary trauma and potentially lead to scarring.

Electroporation

This is one of my favourite pieces of technology to incorporate into a facial.

Electroporation uses gentle electrical pulses to temporarily increase the permeability of the skin, helping selected active ingredients to penetrate more effectively.

I often combine this with one of my Clinicare sheet masks to really maximise the treatment.

Radio Frequency Skin Tightening

Radio frequency feels warm as it works across the skin.

It is used to heat the deeper tissues in a controlled way, stimulating processes associated with collagen production and supporting a firmer, more toned appearance over time.

Again, whether this is included depends entirely on your skin and what we are trying to achieve.

CACI Touch — Electrical Muscle Stimulation

CACI Touch uses gentle electrical muscle stimulation to work the facial muscles and support a more lifted, toned appearance.

I usually incorporate this into longer facials when I feel your skin and facial structure would benefit from it. It can be particularly useful around the jowl area and eye contour, where we are looking to encourage a more lifted appearance.

If improving facial muscle tone is a particular priority for you, I also offer stand-alone courses of CACI Touch. As with all of my treatments, I’ll advise you on whether I think a course is likely to be worthwhile for your individual goals.

Clinicare Sheet Masks

I use Clinicare sheet masks in many of my facials because they are incredibly effective at delivering concentrated ingredients while giving the skin a beautiful dose of hydration.

I particularly love pairing them with electroporation as part of the treatment.

And the results?

Results can be instant. Miracles take a little longer.

You may leave your facial with skin that looks brighter, fresher, more hydrated and more refined. But I never want to promise that one facial will completely transform your skin.

Skin health is a process.

The real magic often happens when we work together over a course of treatments, alongside a considered home care routine and a little patience.

Miracles over a course? Quite possibly.

And that, really, is the point of The Emma Blakeman Method.

It isn’t about choosing the longest, strongest or most complicated facial from a menu.

It’s about looking at your skin, on that particular day, and knowing what it needs.
